This med-elevation llyn (406 m altitude) is just over 1 ha in size. The lake is very shallow, probably <1.5m deep given water lilies don’t typically grow in water deeper than 3-4 ft deep. The edges of the lake can be waded although this probably isn’t strictly necessary given you don’t need to cast far. The water has a moderate peat stain and has a low alkalinity with its catchment dominated by acid grassland and heather grassland.

The lake is dominated by the water lilies, especially in the summer, but there is plenty of clear water along the fringes and the occasional channel between the lilies.  However, beware getting caught up in the vegetation as 2 lb trout are no rarity, with a 3 ¾lb trout taken in 2003 on a fly. I often finish the day fishing this water as it can be covered in less then an hour and is right next to the road en route home. I have tried various tactics but found a dark dry fly drifting on the edge of the lilies to be very effective. You will need lightning quick reflexes as these fish are skittish, quick and often come short to the fly.

The only downside is the busy car park, frequented by campervans and walkers, who will gawk at you while sipping their tea. The litter left by people partying at this beauty spot can also be a very disappointing. Take your litter grabber and a bin bag in your car boot if you are that way inclined.
