Gone Fishing

I was given the book for Christmas as I have enjoyed the TV series. The book is a distillation of many of the themes in the TV series and an easy read. It makes a good gift but not sure that I would buy it otherwise. I started watching the TV show as I am a big fan of Bob Mortimer, most recently for his hysterical contributions to the comedy panel show “Would I Lie to You“. The TV show Gone Fishing, now in its second season, is based on the fact that Bob and Paul, long standing friends, have both had their share of life threatening heart disease and have taken to fishing as a way of getting and staying healthy. It has plenty funny bits, some serious or even dark moments and a good smattering of fishing in some stunning locations that will certainly give you some ideas for your own adventures.

The underlying premise of promoting fishing as a way of getting into nature and exercising to improve and maintain physical and mental health is one that resonates with me and one that I wholeheartedly support.  My enjoyment may be a function of my age and the health challenges that I have also faced in recent years and the role that fishing has played during this period for me but am sure that it will appeal to people of all ages.  I have just started Season 2, which works just as well and if anything seems to be better than the first season. You should definitely give the TV show a try and if you enjoy it then the book is certainly worth a read.
